Ryan Fournier

President

“I grew up as the coach’s kid—and you can look at that two ways. Either ‘You have it easy,’ or ‘You have to prove yourself.’ I had that mindset, and I’ve always been a grinder.” Ryan was three years old when his father, Dick Fournier, started the business. “I learned how to answer the phone professionally.”

Growing up in a logging town, Ryan has deep respect for the risk and rigor of hard workers. He also relates to the fast-paced metropolitan lifestyle, bringing a balanced perspective to Fournier as its President.

Ryan attended Central Washington University, majoring in Sociology. After, he served as a commercial insurance underwriter at Safeco in Seattle, then joined the family firm.

“I’m a business owner, first and foremost. I want to support people in their growth, whether it’s an employee who comes to work for us or a client that partners with us,” he says.

Being responsive and accessible is incredibly important to Ryan and the firm. “When I look clients in the eye, they know we are making a commitment,” he says.

It’s not unusual to see Ryan walk around the office wearing ski gear. There’s a good chance he will cut out to hit the slopes during prime powder time. Ryan helps set the tone and guides the culture; its all about the team. “I don’t like the word, ‘boss,’” he says. “Here, we are comfortable with laughing at ourselves, and I don’t ever pretend to have all the right answers. I’m open to being challenged and we all learn together.”

“Strong work ethic is a major family value.” This ideology was instilled in Kendra her entire life as she watched both her mother and father work to establish the Fournier name within the community. Her father worked long hours building the business, while her mother was the backbone of Fournier running the household as well as her own career. Kendra’s own path was strongly influenced by her mother’s tenacity and father’s diligence.

At the age of 18, Kendra earned her insurance license and while attaining her degree in business from the University of Washington; she spent summers mastering various roles in and outside of the industry. Kendra’s vision for the agency and its abundant potential is part of her DNA. Her Foster admissions essay was centered on the steps she’d take to run the agency.

Following graduation, Kendra stepped out on her own with early aspirations to work in the fashion industry. After this endeavor and becoming a mother, she returned to her roots with a fresh perspective on business, a client-forward customer service mentality and the determination to put her plans for the agency into place.

Kendra found her passion was ultimately for the clients. “I love to take care of clients—it’s about people, getting to know them and approaching every conversation with a fresh perspective,” she says. “Our job is to listen.”

To position Fournier for growth, Kendra manages day-to-day operations of the agency creating an atmosphere of integrity, professionalism, and exceptional client service.

Following her mother’s lead, Kendra understands the importance for work/life balance. During off hours, Kendra’s wanderlust leads her to travel and experience new places. She loves being a mother and spending time with her family and is more than happy to be the “cab driver”. “We meet staff where they are with work/life balance,” she says. “We understand that they are juggling, too, and we really try to take care of them while fostering a supportive, forward-thinking culture.”

Gary E. Michael, Jr., PhD

Gary brings a unique lens to his work in Group Benefits at Fournier Insurance.  He started his career working in R&D developing and vetting products in the healthcare service pipeline.  He worked as a consultant where he was responsible for understanding what the uptake was for health plans and employee benefits.  During the course of his career he has served in business, operations, and marketing roles.  One thing that was missing.

“I had had quite a bit of success throughout my career, but I was always kind of told the same thing, Gary, you’ve got a good skill set. You’ve built some good groups, but what you’re really missing is that sales experience.”

Gary joined the Smith Agency where he honed his sales skills at retirement income planning and eventually opened his own agency.

He has known Ryan for over thirty years.  They attended Central Washington University, played football together, and stayed in touch over the years. In Spring of 2022, Ryan asked Gary to join the leadership team to run the newly formed Employee Benefits department.

Gary was born and raised in the Northwest, pursued his doctorate at University of Connecticut, followed by a successful career on the East Coast. He landed back in Washington with his family, which he’s  willing to tell you, is the most important thing to him.  He loves to fly fish and anything outdoors. He lives in Gig Harbor with his wife, three sons and two cats.

Evan Schatz ensures Fournier has the financial strength and stability to deliver on its promise to clients. By guiding the agency’s growth and strategic direction, he helps make sure our resources are invested where they matter most—supporting exceptional service, innovative solutions, and long-term value for the businesses and families we serve.

With a background that spans investment banking, high-growth technology, and corporate finance leadership, Evan brings proven expertise in managing budgets, evaluating investments, and building efficient operations. His experience allows Fournier to operate smoothly behind the scenes so clients can rely on consistent, high-quality support.

Rooted in the Pacific Northwest, Evan began his career advising regional businesses before leading finance functions at national firms. He carries that same commitment to stewardship into his role at Fournier, ensuring our clients benefit from a partner that is strong, thoughtful, and built for the future.

Outside the office, Evan enjoys exploring the Northwest by bicycle and gives back to the community through local causes such as the Ballard Food Bank.

Scarlet Doherty

Scarlet brings nearly 20 years of insurance experience, making her a dynamic leader and trusted advisor in the industry. Her journey began as a receptionist at a Nationwide agency in Tampa, Florida, and over the years, she has excelled in nearly every agency role—ranging from assistant account manager to operational leadership. This comprehensive background gives her a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the Property & Casualty arena and uniquely aligns with our company’s grounded, connected, and specialist values.

As a key member of our leadership team, Scarlet’s wealth of experience, combined with her “people first” leadership style, inspires and benefits us all. She embodies our commitment to being connected and firmly believes in “seek first to understand.” Her focus is on collaborating with the team to continue to bring best in class resources for not only our clients, but each other. Scarlet believes that when staff feel seen and heard in the workplace, they can bring their best selves, which is wonderful not only for our team, but provides an immediate positive impact for our community & client base.

Scarlet’s passion for helping others was shaped early on when she started babysitting and cleaning houses for her parents’ friends to earn extra money. From a young age, she gained valuable insight into the unique challenges women in particular face, which deepened her commitment to supporting women in their professional growth and success. This perspective has influenced her approach to leadership, fostering an environment where mentorship and empowerment are at the forefront.

Outside of work, Scarlet enjoys staying active, especially in nature. Whether it’s Pilates, hiking, or exploring national and state parks, she finds motivation and renewal in the outdoors.

Rosana is a seasoned insurance executive with more than 25 years of experience helping individuals and families protect what matters most. She has worked across both agency and carrier organizations, leading underwriting, operations, compliance, and client service with a strong focus on enhancing the client experience, driving growth, and improving retention. Rosana also rolls up her sleeves to directly serve affluent clients with unique multi-state needs as their trusted advisor and advocate.

Most recently, Rosana launched a new national department supporting 70+ insurance professionals. Her expertise includes business transformation, cross-functional collaboration, and optimizing account management strategies for personal insurance clients to deliver the highest level of service and protection.

Rosana holds a B.S. in Psychology from Portland State University and multiple professional designations. She is known for “leading with clarity and purpose” and is committed to scaling organizations while mentoring the next generation of insurance professionals.

“Start where you are, stay humble, work hard, and keep learning.” Julie has carried this mindset since her earliest days—mowing lawns in her neighborhood, unknowingly tending to what would one day become her own home. The lesson stayed with her: growth happens through consistency, curiosity, and grit.

Julie’s path into insurance revealed both her aptitude and her passion. Early in her career, she discovered she had a natural ability to navigate complex situations, support her peers, and advocate for healthier workplace cultures. That early chapter shaped her leadership philosophy: people do their best work when they feel valued, supported, and equipped to succeed.

Strategic, balanced, and empathetic, Julie loves the intricacy of the insurance industry—an ever-evolving landscape that invites continual learning. Her strength lies in connecting people, processes, and decisions in ways that improve both the client and employee experience. “Insurance is complex and often misunderstood,” she says. “That creates opportunities to bring clarity and value.”

As Director of People & Culture, Julie merges her operational experience with her passion for mentorship and team development. She understands the business from multiple angles and can translate the needs of both employees and leadership. “When people thrive, businesses do too,” she says. “I’m excited to help recruit and develop the next generation of insurance professionals.”

Outside the office, Julie enjoys life in the Pacific Northwest with her three kids—affectionately referred to as her “pair and a spare” (twins and a singleton). She loves traveling, writing, and finding opportunities to learn, grow, and experience something new.

Ted Schlatter

“Energetic, thoughtful, and hardworking”—three words Ted uses to describe himself, and traits that were shaped early on. At 14, Ted stepped into his first job at Cerbone’s Market, a bustling neighborhood fruit and vegetable stand with an owner who was “tough as nails.” Under Eddy Cerbone’s watch, Ted learned that customers should be treated like family and that hard work was non-negotiable. “I figured out quickly that if I took care of the customer, everything else would fall into place,” he says. Those long summers selling watermelons and corn became the foundation of his work ethic.

Ted brings that same mindset to the insurance world. He enjoys exploring complex coverage issues and finding ways to help clients contain cost and mitigate risk. “They’ve built something meaningful. Protecting that matters,” he says. His thoughtful approach, curiosity, and hands-on problem-solving style make him a trusted advisor and a valuable member of the Fournier Leadership Team. As the new Sales Director, Ted also leads initiatives to grow client relationships and support the team’s strategic goals.

Outside of work, Ted is the bass player for West Coast Mash, a Pacific Northwest band known for its high-energy blend of rock, funk, and soul. In 2025, he helped create and organize Rock with a Reason, an all-ages benefit concert supporting the Tacoma Rescue Mission, combining live music with community impact to raise awareness and support for individuals and families in need.

Ted’s first love outside of work is family. When he’s not with them, you’ll likely find him immersed in music, out on the golf course, chasing waves, or fishing anywhere he can cast a line. These outlets keep him grounded, recharged, and ready to bring his best to the people and companies who rely on him.

He’d sneak the best ones from the trash to surprise his girlfriend or mom, and thankfully, they didn’t mind where they came from! These days, Matt is all about dirt biking, but he also loves playing soccer and hitting the trails for a good hike.
